Discover the Château d’Angers, a vast and well-preserved medieval fortress built in the 13th century by the young Saint-Louis, son of Louis VIII. Punctuated by 17 towers, the massive medieval fortifications in schist and limestone stretch for almost 500 meters.You'll discover archaeological remains, a royal fortress, and ducal buildings from the late Middle Ages. Inside, you will also admire the Apocalypse Tapestry, a unique masterpiece that illustrates the historical, social, and political context of the 14th century in France.You'll have access to the Apocalypse Tapestry, the ramparts, the chapel, the gardens, and the ground floor of the Royal House. The floors of the Royal House are accessible during temporary exhibitions. Since May 18, 2023, the Apocalypse Tapestry of Angers has been included in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.

Not allowed: * animals, except for assistance dogs Know in advance: * Opening times are from 10.00 am to 6.30 pm between May 2nd and September 4th, and from 10.00 am to 5.30 pm between September 5th and April 30th. On December 24th and 31st, the museum closes at 4.30 pm * The last entry is 45 minutes before closing time. Visitors are asked to leave the exhibition rooms in the royal lodge 30 minutes before closing and the Apocalypse gallery 15 minutes before closing * The monument is closed on 1st January, 1st May and 25th December. The Castle could be closed on some dates due to temporary events. Please check the Castle closures on the official website * Free admission for children under 18 years, EU citizens (18-25), disabled people and their companion, French unemployed people, Pass Education holders * free admission for all visitors on the first Sunday of each month from November to March and on the European Heritage Days (the third weekend of September) * The tower rooms are dark and the gallery containing the Apocalypse Tapestry is in semi-darkness and at a temperature of between 18 and 20°C * Access to the towers and ramparts is gained via a large number of steps, which can sometimes be irregular and slippery * The rampart walk may be closed in bad weather (wind, black ice, snow, rain, etc.) * The site is largely outdoors, so be aware of weather conditions * The site is partly accessible to impaired visitors
